Established in 1989 and currently designated by the U. S. Department of Education as one of only thirty-one Centers for International Business and Education (CIBER) in the country, the University of Memphis CIBER is strategically positioned geographically in the heart of the Delta Region—an area rich in diverse cultures, dynamic economies, and strong business sectors. The University of Memphis CIBER enjoys a national reputation as a leader in international business education academic programs such as the International MBA. Students in this program combine a rigorous core business curriculum with foreign language and international studies requirements as well as completing study and internship abroad components.
The University of Memphis CIBER is an active participant in collaborative outreach efforts to the regional business and professional community. Serving an area acknowledged as the “Distribution Center of America” and containing the world's busiest cargo airport, the Memphis region is home to approximately 150 firms from 22 countries. CIBER regularly partners with the Memphis Regional Chamber of Commerce, US Department of Commerce, the World Trade Club, other areas of the University, and a strong base of corporate advisors to offer timely and targeted business outreach programs. Programs designed to encourage international commerce and to enhance the competitiveness of business participants provide a conduit between the business and academic communities—providing strategic information to businesses and feedback from the business community into academic programs.
